The snow and rain have arrived Friday afternoon in Winnipeg and southern Manitoba. Now we're waiting for the accomanying cold front to pass through the city. Ahead of it, temperatures are up above freezing this afternoon. Behind it, the air is much colder air and temperatures are falling quickly. By the noon hour, it was 0C in Brandon and just -10C in Dauphin!
After the front passes through, expect roads, sidewalks and highways to become slippery. Winds will also pick up speed and gust from the north. In Winnipeg's case, be prepared for icy conditions by this evening, if not sooner.
Colder air arrives just in time tor the weekend... Saturday's high will only reach the mid-minus teens in Winnipeg. Sunday won't be as cold, but temps will remain well below the normal high of -6C for the end of February.
Speaking of which...Monday is the first day of March. I won't go as far as to say it will come in like a lion, but it will be cool day. The lamb arrives a day late with a high forecast high back up near freezing on Tuesday.
In the meantime, extreme cold warnings continue Friday across most of northern Manitoba. It's expected they won't end until Sunday morning.
