A very hot and humid day is well underway across southern Manitoba. Hot highs around 30C will feel in the upper 30s with the humidex.
That humidity is pouring into the region from the Dakotas ahead of a warm front. The front is associated with a low that will likely trigger potentially severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in western Manitoba and in Winnipeg and the Red River Valley later tonight.
All threats are possible: hail, strong and damaging wind gusts and heavy rain. And there is a tornado risk in western regions.
Rain and thunderstorms will continue on Thursday across the southern half of the province, bringing some much needed precipitation.
Conditions are drier and warm in Winnipeg on Friday and throughout the weekend with sunshine and daytime highs in the mid-20s, the normal high for mid-August.
