A celebration of life was held for Cooper Nemeth at Calvary Temple on Monday.

Nemeth's father, Brent Nemeth, gave the following speech.

"Thank you all for coming, all of your support over the past 15 days has been incredible and very much appreciated. We are truly touched.

I just quickly wanted to share some things with all of you on what kind of person Cooper really was.

There are so many memories and the flood of emotions are consistently non-stop.

Cooper loved life, whether it was playing sports, playing with his brother, teasing his sister and then hugging her and smiling with her afterwards. Cooper also loved all of his cousins very much. Playing Xbox and hanging with his many many friends were his favorite things as well

Cooper always had a way of making people laugh, whether it was telling a joke, doing a little dance or just looking at you with a goofy face, he could always break the ice even if you were mad at him.

Cooper lived for sports and its competitiveness as he played soccer for many years… some of you will remember the “soccy team” that one year. A soccer team made up of hockey players. Cooper also played football for a few years and ball hockey as well… “the Slendermen”, what a gong show that was. But it was fun.

The sport of choice for Cooper at a very young age was hockey. He told me on a few occasions that he loved feeling the wind in his face as he skated down the ice.. He spent countless hours at the outdoor rink working on his slapshots and his dangles.

For those of you that ever played with Cooper, you’ll know that he was a competitor who played with passion and on the edge when his equipment went on and that he hated to lose. Whatever it took to win, that’s what Cooper did. Whether it was scoring a goal, making a hit, chirping in your ear or getting under the other teams skin and getting thrown out, he did it. He wanted his teammates to play with passion and Cooper only believed in 2 seasons.. tryouts and playoffs, everything in between was just practice is what he would tell me.

Last season was supposed to be Cooper last year playing hockey, but last fall at the last minute he decided to play one more year because he thought he would miss the game too much. I’m glad he did decide to play this season. Cooper was fun to watch.

Outside of sports, Cooper loved hanging with his many many friends. He would make me laugh with some of the stories he told me about you guys. Showing me funny youtube videos, Hanging out at the pink church, being in my garage with the stereo blasting, fireworks, gateway fair and b-money burgers.. those are the good memories we need to keep.

And to all of Cooper’s friends, I thank you. If you ever need to talk about anything, no matter what it is and you feel you can’t talk to anyone. I want you to know that the garage is always open, the fridge is always full and that you can talk to me.

Again I want to thank my family, friends, all the businesses, the community and the people of Winnipeg for everything they’ve done over the past 15 days for us. Tough days are ahead and we know that, but we will be strong and get through it.

There is so much more I’d like to say and I could go on, but I know Cooper would be chirping in my ear right now saying “come on dad…enough already”

So in closing, I would like to say that I wish that you please remember Cooper for the way he lived and not the tragic and senseless way in which he died.

“Cooper, I will see you again one day… I’ll bring my skates and stick, and we’ll go to the ODR and practice some one timers as the cold wind hits our faces”

We love you Cooper

Rest in peace our #1 son. Thank you"
