Winnipeg police have laid charges against a suspect for the shooting which killed 24-year-old Jordan Dennis Houle and sent another man to hospital in serious condition on the weekend.

Officers and emergency crews were called to the 600 block of Maryland Street shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 29.

Houle was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He later died from injuries, said police.

A 19-year-old man was transported to hospital in serious condition, but was later upgraded to stable.

Houle is the second sibling in his family to die within the last three years. In June 2009, Houle’s sister Cherisse was found dead in a creek near Rosser. An autopsy was conducted on Cherisse’s body, but medical examiners were unable to determine if Cherisse was murdered or not.

A suspect in the shooting that killed Jordan was arrested in the 500 block of Langside Street on Oct. 3.

Michael Frank  Okemow, 24, of Winnipeg faces charges for second-degree murder and attempted murder, said police.

Officers continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
