Winnipeg police have made an arrest in connection with a stabbing that sent a man to hospital in critical condition.

The incident was reported around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday near Main Street and Higgins Avenue.

The victim has been upgraded to stable condition, said police late Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, police said an investigation showed the victim had come to the aid of a number of people being assaulted in a nearby park. The suspect and victim, who know each other, got into an altercation. The men were then pulled back.

A few minutes later, the suspect returned and the victim was stabbed several times, said police.

Two other men in the park came to the victim's aid.

Police were flagged down and a suspect arrested.

Officers said Kevin George Daniels, 30, of Winnipeg faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
