Winnipeg’s Sikh community livened up downtown streets Sunday afternoon with a parade and celebration in honour of their holy book.

Thousands turned up to follow a parade from the legislative building to Portage Avenue and Main Street.

Large floats and mock sword fights were featured in the parade.

People were lead by a truck carrying the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib. The procession was meant to symbolize believers following the book’s teachings.

After the parade thousands gathered in Memorial Park to celebrate. Live music and traditional foods were offered to guests.

All Winnipeggers were invited to intend.
