Mississauga hit-and-run leaves pedestrian with life-threatening injuries: police

A female pedestrian has been rushed to hospital with critical injuries after a hit-and-run in Mississauga early Wednesday morning, Peel police say.

Officers were called to the intersection of Bristol Road and Loonlake Avenue, near Terry Fox Way, shortly after midnight for reports that a woman was struck by a vehicle in the area.

Police said they believe the woman, who is in her 20s, crossed Bristol Road on a green light when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

“This motor vehicle fled the scene continuing eastbound on Bristol Road. The pedestrian was transported to a trauma centre where she remains with life-threatening injuries,” police said in an email to CP24.

A resident of the neighbourhood told CP24 Wednesday morning that when he saw the emergency vehicles outside, he checked his security camera footage to see what had happened.

In the footage, he said, he saw a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road when they were struck by a speeding vehicle.

“It seems to be a very tragic incident,” he told CP24.

In separate video footage obtained by CP24, the pedestrian is seen crossing an empty street when a vehicle speeds down the roadway and strikes the woman. The impact of the collision sent the woman flying several feet in the air. The vehicle involved then disappears out of frame.

The suspect vehicle has been described as dark in colour and investigators said it likely has “extensive damage to the front end.”

The area was closed to traffic for several hours for the police investigation but has since reopened.

“Anyone with any dash cam footage or information is asked to contact investigators in our Major Collision Bureau at 905-453-2121 ext 3710,” police said.

Speaking to CP24 on Wednesday, Const. Richard Chin said neighbours and body shops should also be on the lookout for dark vehicles with front-end damage.

“If you are the driver, we would encourage you to seek legal counsel, turn yourself in,” he said. “It is only a matter of time before we locate who you are.”
