The Amalgamated Transit Union is seeking help to protect Winnipeg bus drivers from escalating violence.

Assaults against bus drivers have increased 54 per cent, according to the union. Last year, 60 assaults against bus drivers were reported.

The union is asking the city to enforce the new transit code of conduct.

The union also wants police officers dressed in plain clothing to be stationed on buses.

The Amalgamated Transit Union represents more than 1,100 bus drivers.
