Truckers from across Manitoba joined in “The World’s Largest Truck Convoy” on Saturday to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Canada.
The 170 trucks involved in this year’s convoy raised an unofficial total of $55,000, said Steven Dreger, manager of communications for Special Olympics Manitoba.
Last year’s Manitoba convoy was second largest in North America with 140 trucks.
“Unofficially, we think we might have the largest convoy in North America this year,” said Dreger.
Trucker and parent to a Special Olympic athlete, Svend Andersen, took home the award for top fundraiser, bringing in $5,000.
This is the sixth year the Law Enforcement Torch Run paired up with the Manitoba Trucking Association to sponsor the Manitoba convoy.
