Environment Canada confirms a funnel cloud briefly touched ground near St. Adolphe on Saturday, as severe weather brought hail and rain to Southern Manitoba.

Funnel clouds were reported near Amber Trails, St. Adolphe and Steinbach but Environment Canada says there were no sightings in Winnipeg and there were no reports of damage.

Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for most of Southern Manitoba Saturday, saying conditions were perfect for funnel clouds or weak tornadoes to develop, which would appear with little or no warning. The tornado watch extended from Brandon to the Manitoba/Ontario border and as far north as Gimli.

The agency said a weak low pressure system combined with heating and a moist, unstable air mass, creating ideal conditions for funnel clouds to form. The tornado watch was lifted Saturday night.
