Two charged in death of woman after Stella Avenue assault

Police officers were still on scene at a Stella Avenue residence where a 39-year-old woman was found seriously injured on Saturday. She later died in hospital.

Police have charged a man with second-degree murder and a woman with manslaughter after an assault that killed a 39-year-old woman.

Police say two suspects went to a residence in the 500 block of Stella Avenue and forced their way in. The victim, Mavis Ducharme, and an adult male were both assaulted.

Ducharme managed to escape and fled to a nearby residence, but the two suspects followed her and Ducharme was again assaulted.

Officers responded to a call about an assault in progress around 5 a.m. Saturday. They found Ducharme suffering serious injuries and paramedics rushed her to hospital, where she later died.

Kashtin Flett, 23, has been charged with second-degree murder and breaking and entering to commit assault. Nikina Houle, 23, has been charged with manslaughter and breaking and entering to commit assault.
