Two people were sent to hospital with smoke inhalation following a house fire in South Osborne.
"Two people got out okay, and then one tried to go back and get the cats, and I believe that was (what) the screaming was, them saying ‘don't go back in,’Miranda Hodgson, who witnessed the scene.
A neighbour says one of the people who lived in the house on Hetherington lived with a mental illness, and was sad to see the house so badly burned.
Crews worked steadily for more than hour to extinguish the flames throughout different sections of the house.
Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, but believe the house is a total loss.
