Winnipeg police have arrested two teens in connection with a hydro pole that was set on fire in the Polo Park area.

Just before 1:00 a.m. officers and firefighters found a mattress and hydro pole had been set ablaze in a back alley near the 2200 block of Portage Avenue. The Winnipeg Fire Department managed to extinguish the blaze.

Winnipeg police said they then arrested three male teens who allegedly were found in the area with stolen property.

A 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy are facing multiple charges including arson.

Members of the Arson Strike Force continue to investigate the blaze.

The arson arrests come just weeks after the Arson Strike Force presented a report to the City that found arsons have steadily increased in Winnipeg the last five years.

The report also found that between 2007 and 2011, 537 people in Winnipeg were arrested or cautioned for fires. Most of those, the report said, were under the age of 18.
