Winnipeg police have laid attempted murder charges against a 17 year old and a 15 year old after finding a man severely assaulted in a dumpster Saturday morning.

Just after 8:30 a.m. Saturday paramedics were called to a dumpster in the 500 block of Spence Street after a passerby spotted a badly injured person inside a garbage bin.

"The police cars were over there and then there was an ambulance, and I was wondering what was going on," said Florencia Marquez, who lives nearby.

There they found a 23-year-old man in critical condition with significant upper body injuries, police said.

"When I saw them they had this stretcher, and they went into that bin and they picked this guy out,” said Marquez.

Police said the man remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon, over 24 hours after he was found.

An investigation has found the man was with several other men when a fight broke out. The man was assaulted and then placed in the dumpster, police said.

At 11:30 p.m. Saturday investigators found and arrested a 17-year-old man near where the assault took place. Sunday attempted murder charges were also laid against a 15-year-old girl.

Police said the teens and the victim were known to eachother prior to the incident.

The 17-year-old man is now facing multiple charges including attempted murder. He was on probation when he was arrested.

Both teens remain in police custody.

Police said they are continuing to investigate.
