An annual ceremony honouring treaties between the government and first nations kicked off Urban Treaty Days Tuesday.

A $5 Urban Treaty payment was handed out to members of First Nations involved in signing those treaties.

Nearly 148,000 Manitobans are eligible to collect the treaty payments.

Seven treaties were signed in Manitoba between 1871 and 1910.

Urban Treaty Days runs until June 26.
