The numbers are in and a messy run in the mud for a good cause was well worth it.
Organizers said Saturday's first-ever Dirty Donkey Mud Run raised more than $23,000 for the MS Society of Manitoba.
Runners packed Spring Hill for the messy obstacle course, organized by Swamp Donkey Adventure Racing, Saturday.
Almost 1,000 people navigated pits, hay stacks, tunnels and five kilometers of mud that left competitors caked in the stuff.
“It’s all about fun – getting people out and being active,” said race director Rick Shone Saturday. “We’re very happy to say we’re raising some good funs for MS this weekend.”
One hundred racers were unleashed on the course every 30 minutes, with nearly 1,000 crossing the finish line by the end of the event.
Runners were hosed off after the race by Winnipeg fire fighters.
