Health officials announced flu shot clinics will operate from Oct. 22 – Oct. 26 in Winnipeg.

“It’s important to get the flu shot every year,” Health Minister Erin Selby in a statement. “Each flu season is unique and getting the free shot can help keep your family and those you care about healthy this winter.”

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said key groups include, the “very young and very old, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions along with people with morbid obesity, Aboriginal people and children two to four years old. These groups are most likely to have serious consequences or pass them on to other vulnerable people.”

The WRHA said complications from the flu can include pneumonia which kills 4,000 to 8,000 people, mostly seniors, every year in Canada.

Clinic hours are available by phoning 204-956-SHOT or by visiting www.wrha.mb.ca and clicking on the “flu shots” banner.
