A property crime spike in River Heights has prompted Winnipeg police to host a community forum on the issue.

Members of the public, particularly River Heights residents, can voice their concerns and share ideas Wednesday, May 13 at the Corydon Community Centre, 1370 Grosvenor Avenue, 6:30 p.m.

Police said property-related crimes are on the rise, particularly in the River Heights area, and added it is part of a general seasonal trend that occurs this time each year throughout Winnipeg.

The crimes include home and vehicle break-ins, vehicle thefts and vandalism.

Police said they have responded by increasing routine patrols in affected areas and working on a series of projects based on crime trends. Officers have also started an awareness campaign that includes door-to-door canvassing aimed at ensuring people have the information to protect themselves against possible vandalism.
