New year, new babies.

On Wednesday, just two minutes after the clock struck midnight, Winnipeg welcomed its first bundle of joy of the new year.

According to a social media post by the Health Sciences Centre (HSC), Hayoung Kolt was born at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1 at HSC’s Women’s Hospital.

“The six-pound, two-ounce newborn is the daughter of proud parents, Deborah and Daniel Kolt. Congratulations!” HSC said in its post.

A Shared Health spokesperson told CTV News the family will be enjoying their time together privately.

In Brandon, the city's first baby of the year was born hours later, around 4:51 a.m.

Baby girl Mckenna Janzen weighed in at six pounds, nine ounces and was 19.5 inches long. She was born to parents Jessica and Thomas and big brother Rowan.

The Janzen family, who is from Brandon, also received a gift basket and a bouquet of roses in honour of their healthy daughter being born.
