A Winnipeg woman wants, what she's calling, a deceiving parking sign removed from her street.

Rainie Barrett is fed up with being ticketed right in front of her own home.

"It's just really frustrating because it seems no matter where you park on this strip you end up getting a parking ticket," she said.

She’s blaming a parking sign, and where it's placed for her parking problem.

At a quick glance it seems to indicate that parking is permitted on either side of the pole for two hours, that's what Barrett thought when she first parked there.

“So I parked within three metres of the sign and I got a ticket for $50 for being in an intersection," Barrett said.

The next time Barrett parked there she moved away from the intersection but got another ticket for being too close to a crosswalk.

"The crosswalks aren't marked they are not indicated at all it is just a dip in the sidewalk,” she said.

“If you park according to the sign doing what you think is legal but doing look down at the dip in the sidewalk you're getting a ticket and it's not fair."

Len Eastoe with Traffic Ticket Experts explained other drivers have been ticketed in similar situations across Winnipeg.

Eastoe said it's a flaw in the system.

"Get the signs changed first of all and most importantly stop misleading the public by putting up signs that make it look like you can park there and then when you do they zap you with a parking ticket,” he said.

According to the City of Winnipeg, “what this sign indicates is that, where it is legal to park, you are limited to two hours of parking on this street.”

“Drivers need to be aware of the rules of the road such as not parking in front of a fire hydrant, too close to a crosswalk, blocking a driveway or within an intersection,” a spokesperson said, in a written statement to CTV.

There are similar intersections nearby that are signed much differently with a no parking sign.

Barret said the signs there are more helpful than the ones in front of her home.

"If anything I think the sign should be changed but ideally I think those tickets should be refunded," she added.
