Podgy the pig’s owner said she wants to be able to take the pot-bellied animal for walks.

On Friday, a city committee supported a temporary permit until June for Emily Sydor to keep Podgy.

Between now and then, she has to prove to animal services the pig has been trained as a service animal, or she won’t be allowed to keep him.

Sydor said the permit does not allow her to take Podgy out in public and she says the exercise would benefit the pig.

It’s unclear if she will be able to go for walks with Podgy.

Sydor said the pot-bellied pig is a calming influence that helps her cope with her mental health issues.
