Semi fire prompts Highway 1 closure near Brandon: RCMP

Drivers on Highway 1 near Brandon can expect delays due to a vehicle fire Thursday morning.

Manitoba RCMP posted on X that officers from its Souris and Brandon detachments had responded to a semi truck that caught fire Thursday morning west of Alexander in the RM of Whitehead.

The semi was heading east when the flames broke out. The driver was able to escape uninjured.

Photos from the scene show the smoking remains of the semi truck, as well as what appears to be burned hay bales.

The highway has since reopened to traffic.
