Arrest made after stolen vehicle backed into entry of car wash: Winnipeg police
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) has made an arrest after a suspect backed a stolen cargo van into the entry of a car wash.
The investigation began on Saturday around 3:30 a.m., when officers saw a man walking in the area of McPhillips Street and Polson Avenue who matched the description of the suspect involved in a break and enter the previous day.
Officers tried to stop the man, but he ran away. Police quickly caught the suspect and seized property believed to have been obtained in the break and enter.
The major crimes unit investigated and determined that between last Thursday and Friday, a suspect stole a 2021 Ford Transit 350 valued at $28,000 from an autobody shop in the 1000 block of Arlington Street.
Police allege that around 4 a.m. on Friday, the suspect backed the stolen vehicle into the glass front door entry of a car wash on Watson Street. According to the WPS, the man went into the business and stole its cash register with money and gift cards inside of it. The stolen cargo van was found unoccupied in the 200 block of Austin Street North later on Friday morning.
A 41-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with several offences including break, enter and theft –place. He is in custody.
