Despite ongoing discussions between the Assiniboine Park Conservancy and a zoo in Argentina, it appears unlikely Arturo the polar bear will find a home here in Winnipeg.

Arturo is the last polar bear in captivity in Argentina. To get an import permit to bring the bear to Canada, the Mendoza Zoo would need to provide medical records dating back a minimum of three years.

Officials say they don't have those records, so a permit cannot be issued.

The conservancy will assess Arturo's health over Skype on Friday. It's also offered to send someone to Argentina in the near future.
