A scary night for children playing on a soccer field in St. Vital.
Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., officers received reports of shots fired in St. Vital near Beliveau Road and Eric Street.
Officers and the tactical unit arrived on scene and tracked the sound of shots to a suite in the Chelsea Place high-rise apartment complex.
Police said suspects fired a rifle-style BB gun out a bedroom window towards a soccer field across the street, next to Victor Mager School.
Police arrested two 16-year-old male suspects at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, and later released them into parental custody.
The teens have been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and discharging an air gun or pistol with intent.
Nobody was injured in the incident, but the children were shaken up.
They were playing soccer on a field at Dakota Collegiate when shots were fired their way.
Drew Kerr was one of the kids playing soccer. He said two other kids started yelling at them from a window in a nearby apartment building.
“They were calling us names, saying they were going to come fight us and then me and my friend said just go away and close your window and then they grabbed a BB gun and then they started shooting at us,” said Kerr.
Kerr, 12, ran to a nearby home for help.
He said a staff member from Victor Mager School phoned 911 and police showed up shortly after.
