Brandon landfill to reopen Monday following fire
A fire has prompted the temporary closure of Brandon's Eastview Landfill on Saturday, January 11, 2025. (Source: City of Brandon)
The City of Brandon’s landfill is temporarily closed because of a fire at the site.
According to a release, the blaze started in an active cell at the Eastview Landfill on Friday night.
On Sunday, a City of Brandon spokesperson said the fire has been fully extinguished.
Brandon residents wereasked to avoid the area Saturday as smoke from the fire could pose a health risk.
The Eastview Landfill is expected to reopen Monday morning.
The City notes garbage and recycling collection scheduled for the upcoming week will not be impacted by the temporarily closure.
