The city might use cash from the hotel room tax fund to cover off potential shortfalls with the RBC Convention Centre expansion loan guarantee.
The convention centre was supposed to pay back $33 million to the city based on added business and taxes generated by a new hotel across the street.
The hotel never materialized so a report to the mayor's executive policy committee says money from the Destination Marketing Reserve could be used to cover any gaps.
The convention centre would be responsible for refunding the reserve in the future.
The report says it anticipates a cash shortfall over the next four years or longer.
True North Sports & Entertainment is planning a major development, that includes a hotel, on the two surface parking lots beside the convention centre.
