Frigid temperatures, heavy snowfall heading to parts of Manitoba

Share

A blast of wintry weather is heading to Manitoba on Wednesday, with freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall coming to parts of the province.

On Wednesday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued an extreme cold warning for several communities, including Hamiota, Prairie View and Riding Mountain National Park.

According to the weather agency, wind chills between -40 and -45 are expected on Wednesday morning and will moderate throughout the day.

ECCC warns that extreme cold puts everyone at risk, but especially young kids, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, those who work outside, and those who don’t have proper shelter. It reminds Manitobans to watch for cold-related symptoms, dress warmly and keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.

Snowfall warning

ECCC has issued a snowfall warning for southwestern Manitoba, saying snowfall totals between 10 and 15 centimetres are expected.

The snow is expected to begin late Wednesday afternoon with the heaviest snow coming at night. The snow will taper off by Thursday morning.

ECCC warns that accumulating snow could make travel difficult as visibility could be reduced. Drivers should prepare to adjust to changing road conditions.
