Winnipeg police are warning the public that a high-risk offender has been released from jail and is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Marcel Hank Charlette, 52, was released from Headingley Correction Centre Tuesday, where he was serving a sentence for failing to comply with a release order.

“Charlette has a history of violent offending,” a note from Winnipeg police reads. “Although he has completed some sexual offender treatment in the past, he remains a high risk to re-offend. All men, women, and children are at risk.”

Charlette has a lengthy criminal history. He was convicted in 1991 of manslaughter involving a two-year-old child, for which he served a six-year prison sentence. He has also been convicted of aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon and multiple court order breaches.

While released, he will be prohibited from possessing weapons, accessing pornography, possessing alcohol or drugs unless prescribed by a doctor, and must abide by a nightly curfew.

Police said they are providing information to allow the public to protect themselves, but notes vigilante activity will not be tolerated.
