One Winnipeg hotel is getting in on the discussion around Justin Trudeau’s resignation.

Super 8 Hotel by Wyndham Winnipeg East created a one-day special on Tuesday to honour what it describes as a “truly historic event.” As part of the Trudeau Resignation Special, the hotel offered half off rooms for Jan. 7 only.

According to the hotel owner Justin Schinkel, the event was an attempt to bring some humour to a serious situation.

“We thought that we just wanted to participate and spread a little cheer and celebrate this change with our fellow Canadians by doing something fun and light in these dark political times,” he said.

Schinkel said the hotel has received positive feedback on the discount.

“People are very excited,” he said.

“We’ve had lots of people interacting on social media, kind of excited for the deal, a lot of laughing emojis…The moral of it is just a lot of light-hearted, kind of a fun thing to do with this big political announcement.”
