A Grand Chief representing multiple First Nation communities in Manitoba will be returning to his job in the new year.

The Southern Chiefs’ Organization announced Thursday that Jerry Daniels will be resuming his role as Grand Chief on Jan. 6.

The organization said he was on leave last week for “health reasons,” but did not elaborate further.

Cornell McLean of Lake Manitoba First Nation has been the acting Grand Chief in the interim.

Daniels has served as the SCO’s Grand Chief since 2017, and was re-elected to his third term this summer.
