Man stabbed after being asked to leave home: Winnipeg police
A 19-year-old man was taken to the hospital on Thursday following a stabbing in Winnipeg’s West End.
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) was called to the 600 block of Wellington Avenue just after 3 p.m. on Thursday for the report of a stabbing.
When officers got to the scene, they found a 19-year-old man with an upper body injury. He was taken to the hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable. The suspect fled the scene before police got there.
Police investigated and determined the victim went to the suspect’s home in the 700 block of Toronto Street but was asked to leave due to “unruly behaviour.” Officers said the victim complied with multiple requests but returned to the home and continued his disruptive behaviour.
The WPS alleges that during the victim’s final return to the home, the suspect armed himself with an edged weapon and chased the victim from the property, stabbing him in his upper body. The victim went to a business in the 600 block of Wellington Avenue where police were called.
Police found the suspect at the Toronto Street home where he was arrested.
The suspect and victim are known to each other.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. He was taken into custody.
