Manitoba will be sending more than a dozen trained firefighters to help battle the wildfires in British Columbia.

Through the province’s wildfire program, a team of 13 firefighters, along with 50 pumps will be sent.

The province said it will also be sending one air-attack officer to Northwest Territories to assist with co-ordination of firefighting efforts in that region.

Travel arrangements and co-ordination of resources is still being finalized, the government said. However, the team is expected to leave Manitoba later this week.

British Columbia officials say they are anticipating a lengthy wildfire season as hot, dry conditions persist in many parts of the province.

About 14,000 people have been displaced by more than 200 wildfires that have eaten through 400 square kilometres so far.

Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick have also sent firefighters and equipment to B.C.
