Accused letter bomber Guido Amsel is closer to securing legal representation.

A Winnipeg lawyer is assisting the court to help Amsel, 49, get a lawyer from a different province at Amsel’s request.

Amsel, 49, faces charges that include attempted murder following a series of bombings earlier this month.

The lawyer told court he has been in contact with several lawyers from different provinces but no one has officially come forward.

Amsel appeared in court via video link Thursday morning.

He was arrested after explosives were sent to his ex-wife's workplace almost two weeks ago.

A law firm connected to legal battles between the former couple was also targeted.

Two bombs were detonated safely, but one exploded and caused severe injuries to lawyer Maria Mitousis.

Amsel has not entered a plea to the charges.

His next court date is scheduled for later this month.
