Rain in the Whiteshell is helping control the Caddy Lake wildfire.

The fire didn’t grow in size Wednesday, and officials with Ontario Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services don’t expect further growth of the fire Thursday.

The Manitoba government said hydro lines in the area have not been damaged. However, an unoccupied trapper’s cabin on North Cross Lake was destroyed.

The last report indicated the size of the Caddy Lake fire is 5800 hectares.

Meanwhile, rain is helping with a much larger fire burning near Beresford Lake.

That fire was last reported to be burning an area covering 73,000 hectares along the Manitoba-Ontario border.

More Manitoba crews are heading to the area to fight the Beresford fire.

20 firefighters from Nova Scotia will be deployed Friday to help crews get a handle on the wildfire.

An information session for affected home and cottage owners of the Caddy Lake fire will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Whiteshell Community Hall in Falcon Lake, Man.

The meeting will include a question and answer with fire officials.
