The most circulated books of 2024 at the Winnipeg Public Library
Winnipeg bibliophiles were kept busy in 2024.
The Winnipeg Public Library has released its most-circulated books of the past year, showing that the city’s tastes cover a wide range.
Adult Biography
Many people were finally able to read Britney Spears’ best-selling autobiography in 2024.
“The Woman in Me” was circulated 619 times in 2024, putting at the top of the adult biography section for the Winnipeg Public Library. Spears told the story of her tumultuous career and life, along with her efforts to have her controversial conservatorship ended.
Last year’s most read non-fiction book, Prince Harry’s “Spare,” still had lots of readers in 2024. It was circulated 565 times through the year.
Rounding out the top five for the year in adult biography is the late Matthew Perry’s “Friends, Lovers and the Big, Terrible Thing,” Barbra Streisand’s autobiography “My Name is Barbra,” and Premier Wab Kinew’s 2015 memoir “The Reason You Walk.”
Winnipeggers also wanted to learn more about the world’s richest man, with Walter Isaacson’s biography of Elon Musk finishing in sixth place with 242 checkouts.
Adult Fiction
Bestselling authors were popular in the fiction category in 2024.
Kristin Hannah’s most recent novel “The Women” led the way in checkouts, with 670.
Manitoba author katherena vermette had the second-highest number of circulations with her novel “The Circle,” which was checked out 560 times.
British author Lisa Jewell’s “None of This is True” was in third place with 546 checkouts, while Anne Patchett’s “Tom Lake” was fourth with 539 checkouts.
Patrick deWitt’s “The Librarianist” and Freida McFadden’s “The Housemaid,” were tied for fifth place.
Adult Non-Fiction
Books on Indigenous history and making good choices were popular with reads of non-biography nonfiction.
David Grann’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” adapted into an Oscar-nominated film, had 361 circulations, followed by “Valley of the Birdtail” by Andrew Stobo Sniderman and Douglas Sanderson with 353.
Rounding out the top five on the list are Daniel and Gabor Maté’s “The Myth of Normal,” Sophie Gregoire Trudeau’s “Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other,” and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.
