What's open and closed in Winnipeg on New Year's Day
New Year’s Day is coming up on Wednesday, which means some businesses, services, and organizations may be closed or operating at reduced hours on New Year’s Eve and Day.
Here is a list of what’s open and closed from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1 in Winnipeg and across the province:
Malls
Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
Kildonan Place will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
St. Vital Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
Garden City Shopping Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day.
CF Polo Park will be open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
Outlet Collection Winnipeg will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Liquor Marts
All Winnipeg, Brandon and rural Liquor Marts will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
City of Winnipeg Services
All civic offices will be closed on Jan. 1.
Recycling and garbage will not be collected on New Year’s Day. If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, put your carts out one day later for this week.
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day. However, on New Year’s Eve it will operate extended hours on select routes. Winnipeg Transit is also offering a Free Ride program beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and running until the end of service.
The Brady Road Landfill, Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot, and Pacific and Panet 4R Winnipeg Depots will be closed on Wednesday.
All Winnipeg public libraries will be closed on Wednesday.
All arenas are closed from Dec. 25 and will reopen on Jan. 2, except for the Ab McDonald Arena, which will be open over winter break. The schedule for casual ice rentals can be found online.
All indoor pools and fitness and leisure centres will be closed on Wednesday.
The Animal Services Agency will be open noon to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries are open regular hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, the administration office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed on Wednesday.
Other attractions
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be closed New Year’s Day.
The Manitoba Museum will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
