Two Manitobans ice fishing on Reynar Lake in Ontario had to call for help while stranded in the area, just inside the Ontario border.

Crews dispatched a Hercules aircraft from Winnipeg to help search for the men after police received a call around 5 p.m. Jan. 20.

A few hours later at around 10:30 p.m., OPP received a cellphone call from one of the missing men, who provided GPS coordinates.

The men were then spotted from the air by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre team and family members nearby on snow machines picked up the men.

“They were cold and exhausted and one was suffering from frostbite but neither one had any serious injuries,” said OPP in a release.

Police said the men had become stuck in deep slush.

Police reminded snowmobilers to carry safety equipment when heading out, including carrying cellphones, chargers, GPS and survival gear.
