Two men were assaulted during a vehicle theft near Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street early Sunday morning, said police.
The victims and four suspects were all in the vehicle together around 3:00 a.m.
According to police, one of the suspects told the driver to stop, at which time both the driver and a passenger were assaulted before the four suspects drove away in the vehicle.
A 31-year-old man was transported to hospital in critical condition with wounds to his upper body.
Police said he has since been upgraded to stable condition.
A 34-year-old man sustained a minor injury and did not require medical attention.
Winnipeg police said the vehicle was later recovered and two people have been charged.
Stephen Michael Toews, 23, and Norma Ellen Andrews, 22, are each charged with robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and breach of probation.
Both remain in custody.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
