If, or when, the Arlington Street Bridge is replaced, the connection could be closed during construction.

In order to build the new $300 million structure beside the current location, the city needs to acquire a rail line from the Canadian Pacific Railway.

But a bid on the city’s website for preliminary design work said if the city can’t remove the track, the new bridge will be built on the same site, closing the route to traffic for an extended time instead of one construction season.

The bid opportunity also says 48 properties are expected to be impacted by the project.

Construction is set to begin in September 2019 with a new bridge opened for October 2023.
