Lawyers for the Manitoba Jockey Club want a judge to restore $5 million in funding it uses to run the race track that was cut by the Selinger government.

Jeffrey Rath argues the finance minister and Manitoba Lotteries broke a legal contract between the Jockey Club and the Crown corporation.

The province is backing a plan that would see the Red River Exhibition spend millions of dollars to renovate and take over the track.

A lawyer for the Selinger government argued the court shouldn't override a minister's decision. The judge's ruling was adjourned Friday.
