A prominent Winnipeg business leader has decided to step aside after more than a decade-and-a-half. Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce President and CEO David Angus announced his resignation after 17 years.

Current Executive Vice-President Loren Remillard will step in as the new president and CEO.

Angus’ official last day is July 31. The chamber will hold a luncheon June 28 to celebrate Angus’ achievements.

Angus spearheaded several chamber initiatives, including the formation of business consulting organization Yes! Winnipeg and licensing the World Trade Centre Winnipeg, the chamber said in a news release.

The chamber also credits Angus with driving up membership to its highest level in the organization’s history.
Remillard started at the chamber in 1997 as director of public affairs, but left in 2003 to work in the federal civil service. He returned in 2014 and was appointed executive vice-president in January 2015.

He developed the BOLD campaigns during the civic and provincial elections, which sought to gather and promote ideas from civic and business leaders in the city.
