The Assinboine Park Zoo's newest resident arrived in Winnipeg Wednesday afternoon from Churchill.
Zoo staff accompanied the bear on its flight from northern Manitoba to the city.
Crews quickly transferred the cage containing the polar bear from an airplane into a zoo truck.
Officials offered an update on the animal's condition Thursday.
“The bear is doing well after making the trip from Churchill and is now comfortable in the (International Polar Bear Conservation Centre),” said Dr. Chris Enright, head of veterinary services.
“We’ll now begin a slow process of transitioning him to life here at the Assiniboine Park Zoo," he said.
The currently unnamed bear had previously been locked up in a cell in September after he attacked a man in northern Manitoba.
Manitoba Conservation officials identified the bear as a candidate for transfer to the zoo's polar bear centre. He is the first polar bear born in the wild to make its new home at the centre.
Zoo officials said the bear will be quarantined for 30 days while they assess him.
After then, he'll be moved to an enclosure away from the zoo's other polar bear, Hudson.
