A city committee has ordered a business to get rid of eight giant storage tanks from a River Heights neighbourhood.

Councillors denied an appeal by Fort Distributors against a removal order.

Several residents showed up opposing the storage tanks. They described them as an eyesore and worry the silos will bring down property values.

The company argued the city had no jurisdiction to remove them as it's part of a railroad operation. They also said the tanks will prevent trucks from coming at all hours of the night and will benefit the community.

This may not result in the storage tanks coming down yet as Fort Distributors could take the matter to court.
