She was “unrecognizable…it was a lot of blood,” Cheylynn Moizer told court Wednesday. Moizer is the first of four scene witnesses at the trial in the killing of Kaila Tran, 27, in June 2012.
Treyvonne Willis pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the St. Vital case.
On April 8, the jury in his trial heard from scene witnesses.
Cheylynn Moizer, who had been living at the St. Vital apartment block, said she woke up to the sound of a woman yelling a swear, followed by screaming.
Moizer told court she jumped out of bed, put her glasses on and leaned out her kitchen window to see a man on top of a woman in between two cars. Moizer told court he appeared to be ready to hit the woman.
She described the man as “darker skinned,” wearing a hoodie and green and black plaid pyjama pants.
Moizer shouted, “What are you doing?” She told her then-boyfriend to call 911, and ran outside.
She told court she didn’t see the man get up, but when she got outside, he was a few feet away from victim on the ground. Moizer testified she saw him “jogging” east through the parking lot, towards the Seine River.
When Moizer reached Tran, she said she was unrecognizable.
"It was a lot of blood,” Moizer told court.
She said she could hear blood in Tran’s throat as she breathed.
As more witnesses arrived, Moizer was told to turn Tran on her side, and, as they felt they were losing her, someone else gave Tran CPR.
Tran was eventually taken to hospital, before she was pronounced deceased.
In total, four scene witnesses will be heard in the court case.
The Crown said it will eventually call on a statement from the accused, which will be read before the court.
