A fire completely demolished an apartment building in Flin Flon, Man. on Saturday evening.

Fire Chief Chad Cooper said crews were called to the two-storey building shortly before 8 p.m.

He said smoke and flames were visible in the roof and attic area of the building. Crews tried to extinguish the flames in the attic first, but had to back out when the roof gave way.

Cooper said the building was built in 1940 and several additions had been built in the intervening years, which made fighting the fire more challenging.

Nobody was inside when crews arrived on scene, however Cooper said one occupant heard crackling and smelled smoke in the attic area.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is not suspicious and the cause is still under investigation, Cooper said.

He said the building is a total loss and had to be demolished.

Crews were on scene until about 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
