The province's acting chief medical examiner has called an inquest into the death of an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution.

Dwayne Mervin Flett, 32, died on April 15, 2015.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner says Flett was found unresponsive in his cell in the early morning hours when correctional officers were making a routine check.

Inquests can be called if a person has died unexpectedly, suddenly or from an unknown cause.

The inquest will determine the circumstances related to Flett's death. It will also look to see if anything can be done to prevent future deaths.
