Mark Scheifele named first star of the week by NHL
Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele is taking home top honours for his play over the last week.
The NHL named Scheifele the first star of the week Monday after tallying six points in two games last week.
Scheifele started the week with a third-period hat trick against the Toronto Maple Leafs to help propel the Jets to a 5-2.
Despite four days off between games, Scheifele's scoring touch didn't stop, as he had a goal and an assist on the way to a 4-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.
In 37 games this season, Scheifele has 22 goals and 22 assists. Currently, he is tied for 14th in league scoring.
The only other star of the week for the Jets has been Connor Hellebuyck, who has received the nod twice. Kyle Connor and Hellebuyck have both been named star of the month this season—Connor in October and Hellebuyck in November.
Scheifele will look to continue his hot streak as the Jets host the Nashville Predators on Monday.
