On Saturday morning emergency personnel responded to the report of a garage fire in the 100 block of Chestnut Street.

At around 5:45 a.m., police arrived at a working fire at two adjacent garages.

Police said there was extensive damage done to two vehicles and the contents of both garages. They are pegging the damage at $80,000.

Officers said there were no injuries. The Office of the Fire Commissioner determined that the fire was in fact, arson.

“It is very geographically close to the large fire on Maryland. It certainly occurred sort of within the same time frame,” said Const. Rob Carver.

There is no word yet if both fires are connected.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call police at 204-986-6813 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
