The number of mayoral candidates for the 2014 civic election in Winnipeg has hit the double digits.
Late Friday afternoon, Buck Duchene entered his name as the 10th candidate to run for mayor.
The 40-year-old father of two was born in Minnesota, but spent the majority of his life in Winnipeg.
Duchene works in retail marketing and has no formal political training.
He said he’s been paying close attention to the mayoral race and thinks other candidates are missing the big picture.
"I'm willing to go over multiple issues and not just the main three ones to get voted in," Duchene said.
He said he wants to address Winnipeg’s flooding issues, ensure better tax control, make homes and property more affordable, maintain accountability between developers and the city and improve city transit without increasing fares.
Duchene calls city streets and sidewalks mine fields.
He promises to maintain the roads we already have.
"Rather than jump in and say, 'I'm going to build 50 roads,’ you've got to think ahead of schedule and say, 'If I'm going to build 50, what am I going to need to maintain those 50 over the course over the next 100 years?" he said.
He remained tight lipped on how he plans to fund projects.
Duchene will attend a mayoral forum at the Thunderbird House on Sept. 27, 2014.
The mayoral election is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Candidates can register until 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
